Fort Prinzenstein is one of the Volta Region’s most important heritage listings. Set in Keta, it adds a coastal historical layer to the directory and connects the region to Ghana’s broader story of forts, colonial trade, imprisonment and Atlantic history.
The site is also a reminder that heritage places can be vulnerable. Parts of the fort have been damaged by the sea, so the value of the listing is not only what visitors can see, but also the context it gives to Keta’s coastline, erosion, memory and preservation.
